Agile Team Empowerment

Agile is the most common and continuously increasing popular system due to the fast and quick response they provide to customer demand and changing market conditions. This shift is mostly driven by agile teams that are multidisciplinary and self-organized. Autonomous agile teams have better decision-making and freedom compared to traditional teams which helps them easy to achieve the set goals. In agile teams, every team member knows their responsibility and is accountable for their work done.

This makes agile teams an important part of agile. Agile teams are like blood in our bodies. Generally, many agile organizations have many such teams but they are always small teams that make the functioning of the team easy. But with changing and fast pacing business world the agile teams are also expected to have a faster pace that will make them more agile. With this agility, agile teams are also required to maintain stability and dynamism. Achieving these four practices is the best to make an organization more agile and empower teams.

Practices to Empower Agile Teams

·       By providing shared purpose and vision organizations can focus and give coherence to their value creation model, giving business that makes people personally and emotionally invested. It also works as a reference for employees on where to work, customers for where to choose and buy, and partners for where to engage. This shared purpose and vision provide agile with a quick sense of opportunities to seize them. This method also makes every team member watch as themselves the customer’s preferences change and the external environment acts on them immediately. This process helps an agile organization to ensure that every team member is focused on working autonomously to deliver team outcomes that will deliver tangible value to customers and stakeholders.

·       Allowing teams and team members to self-manage will provide a faster and more empowered team. When the manager of the team steps down from the manager and works as a servant leader the self-management in the team itself starts building changing the dynamics for to better. This role change of manager will itself start making the transition from a single decision-maker to an advisor and facilitator of a team where the team will come up with their ideas and processes to achieve the task and actively participate in retrospectives and planning processes. With time they will also start engaging other colleagues from different departments to maximize the value and improve the efficiency of the work they produce.

·       Create an environment of rapid decision and learning cycle in an agile organization. As agile is about quick pace so it requires rapid decisions and learning from the teams and team members. Observe the processes and see where decision-making is taking time and is it worth it? Try to reduce the time in decision-making. By continuous rapid iteration of thinking team members will be able to learn quickly and proceed further with improving their creativity. This will also help an organization to build and pave the way for innovation and agile operating processes. This rapid thinking and learning can also be achieved by implementing standard ways of working where ever necessary, improving communication and interactions between teams, making team members performance-oriented, and concentrating on rapid iterations and experimentations.

·       Developing transparent processes do wonders for an organization. It helps in motivating team members and teams to take ownership of their work and build trust in them for team members and the organization. Team members themselves are motivated and feel accountable for the work they perform throughout the project. To achieve this agile organizations and team leaders must ensure that the tasks and experiments in the team and projects are visible to everyone related to the project and team leaders are facilitating an environment of openness and communication within a team.

·       While transforming to agile and going with agility to empower teams organizations must always be aware of enabling next-generation technology. With a fast pace changing business, technology is also changing at a faster pace so to keep up with the world it is necessary to be aware and use the required updated technology to maintain speed and flexibility. To meet customers' needs and competitive conditions, operating processes and practices are also continuously required to evolve. Thus, integrating next-generation technology will help empower the agile team and develop continuously with changing times.

Being an effective leader and organization means treating your teams with change that will empower and provide your team with a confident and free atmosphere where they can grow. With the above practices in organizations and teams leaders can make their teams more empowering to face the speeding competition in agile.
