Teams are what make the organization what it is, and what it can be. When organizations can develop a sense of belonging within the teams and team members of the organization then teams are the ones who support them in their vision and goals for achievement. We set the organization’s vision statement that applies to every employee working in the organization for them to understand the combined vision as an organization.

But every agile team is different and has its unique combination of team members working together. Every agile team has its unique qualities as well as drawbacks. So we can say even though the goal to reach is the same for an organization's vision, teams are individual unit that works with different personalities, habits, working strategies, and routines. As every team is different, the motivation required for a team is also different. The company vision statement will provide teams with the larger picture and goals to achieve as a team. Having their vision statement will help them to have their inspiration that helps the team goals and vision to reach, which will further link with the organization's vision.

In short, the team’s vision statement is a small inspiration and vision for the agile team stating where they want to reach, inspiring and connecting team members for working as a team. Even though it sounds simple but creating a statement that includes the team's uniqueness, and culture, along with the company’s vision for inspiring the team, bringing a sense of accountability to team members is a challenging process.

Team members and company vision should be the main ingredient of a motivational and inspiring vision statement of a team. In this article, we have discussed some step-to-step guides for writing the inspiring team vision statement that will guide your team forward and bring a positive work environment to the team.

Involve Team Members

As it is the vision statement for an agile team, it should not be created on your own but it must also include team members. They must be the ones who must know and help in decision making what they want to work towards. With team members' involvement, it is more likely to accept and embrace the vision openly by the team. While sending a meeting email, mention the meeting agenda and also schedule a meeting sometime in the future providing team members to think over the purpose and come up with their ideas.

Sync with Company Vision Statement

The vision statement for an agile team should involve teams or departments' vision along with including the host organization's vision as well. Being a part of an organization no team can run in a different direction from organization growth, so the team’s vision is to look forward and further sync with the organization's vision and strategy. When both company and teams are in sync, it impacts the growth rate ten folds more powerful.

Gain Consent

When planning for a team’s vision statement one must be clear that it is for an overall team instead of any director or executive report or sole vision. During the creation of a vision, every team member must have a say in it. This will provide a team with a sense of ownership and accountability for its completion.

Make it Achievable

Even though the vision statement is for the future instead of making it exaggerated and not achievable, make it within reach. But it should not be too easy to achieve. It should still stretch the team. In short, it should state the achievable statement, as well as teams, must also have to work for it and get out of their comfort zones.

Make it Visible

Be proud of your team’s statement as it is what represents your team, so make it visible. Use them at taglines, at email signatures, and almost everywhere possible. Team members must be able to view it two to three times a day for better embracing and remembering it.

Update it Every Year

As the agile team completes their project and gets a step closer to future goals, updating the vision statement will help them give the feeling of achievement and motivate them further to chase the goal. This will also help the team to verify that they are on the right track to their goal. Even though a vision statement cannot have a drastic change in a year but a minor change in the vision statement will also provide a sense of accomplishment in the team inspiring team members further.

Motivation and collaborations are the main players in the team’s success and the team’s vision statement will help in achieving it. The above-mentioned tips will guide you to write an inspiring and motivating vision statement that is embraced by every team member.
