 In this digital world, there are way more than required distractions for everyone. While working it becomes difficult to keep focused on a task and be efficient and productive. Our many articles have mentioned how important having focused is important for agility. When there is no focus, obtaining agility in the task and further in an organization is hard to obtain. But when it comes to today’s time agility is the most important task. When it comes to agile methodology obtaining focus is almost achieved by everyone in an agile organization. But how is it possible for every team member, agile coach, and product owner to gain it? The best method to have successful focus is to know about and apply for deep work.

Let’s learn what deep work is and how it helps in obtaining focus.

What is Deep Work?

When it comes to a cognitively demanding task it’s harder to stay focused. Deep work is the ability to stay focused on such cognitively demanding tasks without any distractions. Deep work is a skill that helps you to quickly understand and master complex information and produce results in less time with agility.

Deep work can be explained as work that is performed in a distraction-free environment, create values, improve skills that are hard to replicate, and helps cognitive capabilities to limit. Deep work helps you with obtaining

Rules of Deep Work

Work Deeply

Design your routine and rituals such that it saves your willpower and avoids a state of unbroken attention. Be clear about where you will work and for how long. Be clear with your required support for your work. This will help in maintaining your focus and bring agility to work.

Fit deep work for some time in your work schedule.

Embrace Boredom

Don’t avoid breaks but be sure to have a break from focus and not from distraction. Have productive meditation like walking and running. Structure deep thinking by questioning the answers you want and the problems you want to solve.

Resign Social Media

Always be sure about the tools you select as other people select for their occupation. Tools are an important part of any worker. When it comes to intellectual work who appreciates deep work then tool selection becomes more important. Beware of the tools benefit approach, and identify the core factors of the tools where their positive factors overweigh their negative impact.

Ban yourself for at least 30 days from social media. You will find that even if you were not there on social media it didn’t affect any people, or even you didn’t need their service as much as you thought.

Drain the Shallow

For deep work, it is necessary to manage time wisely, as deep work is too exhausting. Deep work can only be done for 2-4 hours a day so schedule your time more wisely when doing deep work.

The opposite of deep work is shallow work, which requires not that much effort or cognitive ability to push our limits. This shallow work doesn’t provide the elite work produced by deep work and it can also be done with distraction.

Start your day with a new page and set a schedule for the day assigning hours in a block and activities. Fixed scheduled productivity, if possible keep your default answer as no for agility and become hard to reach for others while doing deep work.

Understand Busyness is not Productivity

To achieve elite results with agility you must understand that being busy doesn’t mean working as it does not always provide results. Being busy may also mean being distracted. It is necessary to understand what we are busy with and avoid any unnecessary busyness. To achieve it, have clear goals and track them regularly.

Distractions are the biggest enemy of concentration and focus if you can achieve a state of meditation avoiding distraction then it is possible to achieve deep working and bring agility in your work and organization with outstanding results.
