The One Thing for Agile Productivity

If any business gets an option to change one thing in their business then it will surely be to increase productivity. With increasing agile popularity the importance of increasing productivity is also developing. Agile has shown how increased productivity can affect every aspect of the betterment of the business. Improving productivity involves managing time, improving processes, and improving quality and employee involvement. It’s a whole package of improvement when it comes to only one thing which is productivity. When it comes to productivity many underestimate or overestimate themselves. Improving productivity in agile can be well explained in the books “The One Thing” by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan and “Eat the Frog” by Brain Tracy. In this article, we will have a glimpse of this book's understanding of the main points to improve productivity in agile.

Improving productivity requires a series of activities and the main activity in all of them, which is mentioned in both books includes having a focus. We will see the first three steps first that help in improving productivity for agile and then we will see details on how the focus is important for agile productivity.

To improve productivity it is important to set goals, write down the goal and prioritize the goals. To work it is important to take some time and set the goals you want to achieve. Along with setting the goals also set an approximate deadline within which you need to achieve the goal. As important as setting a goal and deadline, writing it down is also important to confirm that it’s really important and its specific details to carry on the goal. The third steps include prioritizing the tasks or we can say goals. But there is what ‘Eat the Frog’ differs at. Even after prioritizing it states to go with the most difficult task first which means eat the frog first.

Eating the Frog

As stated above it means doing the most challenging task first taking on the ugliest frog first and then moving towards other minor and releasing tasks. This helps in creating a habit of completing the difficult task at the start when the mind is fresh putting our 100 percent into bringing greater productivity and success.  It helps in optimizing your activities, it frees you from the burden for the day for other tasks as important and most challenging tasks are already completed.

One Thing of Productivity is Focus

Both books agree on one thing which is having complete focus on the task at hand. This step includes making one thing a focus that helps you make other things easier or more efficient to work. It helps in motivating you for other goals, creating a path for answers to other related issues. When we go with eat the frog first and select the difficult task of the day to work on early, we go out of our comfort zone. This helps in developing our skills, brings meaning, and purpose to everyday goals, and even keeps the priority tasks intact.

When these two things eat the frog and one thing that is focused are combined we can achieve greater productivity as both along bring a lot of benefits to the organization. The advantages of this combination are mentioned below.

It helps in optimizing the task as well as the priority list. It gives you a complete idea of what is important and how much time tasks are going to take approximately giving you detail on the time consumption of the day.

It helps in focusing on the elephant in the room and working on it first so that once it is completed you are free to achieve the next goals more efficiently and with ease.

It is more of an impact-driven focus on one task at a time, providing all your focus on an important task at hand without getting defeated by any distractions.

This helps not only in your profession but also in your personal life. Making important things focus your time and energy while getting rid of unwanted or obstacle tasks from your success.

In short, we can see how to eat the frog and the one thing both focuses on bringing productivity with agility by keeping only one thing as a focus and adding all strategy, skill and energy to it to achieve success which further also helps in achieving other goals.
