How Can A Project Manager Manage Risks?
“Being a Project
Manager is like being an artist, you have the different colored process streams
combining into a work of art” – Greg Cimmarrusti
The process of
breaking down software development work into smaller steps with a potential to
increase the efficiency of the work is called Software Development Process.
Different approaches are involved in Software Development to achieve the
desired results.
What is Project Management?
The
application of different processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience
of professionals to deliver a product with constraint resources and budget is
called Project Management. Any project that has a varied number of components
needs to be managed; this is why the concept of Project Management was brought
into action. The primary constraints in any project are- budget, time and
scope. Many frameworks, tools, phases have been developed to counter all the
challenges involved in product making. Not one approach is fit to give best results
for all type of projects so; it is one of the decisions to be made in Project
Management. The most popular and common types of project management are-
·
Waterfall

Who is a Project Manager?
An
experienced professional who is the head of the project management in any
industry is a Project Manager. Project managers are responsible to achieve the
predetermined goal though a well planned process. Their functions include
planning, designing, allocating, executing, testing and resolving any issues
throughout the process. They are the link between team leaders/Scrum Masters
of different teams and also the point of contact for any progress reports about
the project by the higher authorities.
Simple ways to avoid Risks in Development
Process
There are a
lot of complex procedures involved in software development and so there are also
challenges and risks that have been interrupting the progress of the process.
Although there are some risks that cannot be avoided even if precautions have
been taken like natural hazards and depletion in reputation but still there are
a few ways in which other risks can be prevented. They are-
·
To
identify the potential risks can prove to help prevent the risk. Hiring
professionals who have knowledge about the whole process, tools, resources,
risks can help to eradicate some unwanted issues.
·
Analyzing
the impact of the potential risk on the whole process is the next step.
·
After
analyzing the strength of the potential risk, the Manager should prioritize
them accordingly.
·
If
the risk is small and can be mitigated totally, then justified steps must be
taken but if the risk cannot be removed totally then the impact should be
reduced using different tools and methods.
·
Keeping
track of the threat or risk is to be needed to complete the project error free.
Usually, the
Project Managers are responsible for risk management, but sometimes they
delegate smaller risk management to the team leaders or Scrum Master.
